Guidelines for The Intellect Writers
We welcome all those who wish to contribute an article for publication to The Intellect. However, we would appreciate that first you thoroughly review the following clauses which will help you to get a better understanding of The Intellect’s criteria for article-writing as well as to enrich your personal writing approach.
Article Submission
The write-up that is contributed must be your original piece of work. Also it should not have been published earlier elsewhere. Otherwise, it must be stated.
Before proceeding with your article-writing, send an email to us with the outline of the article you wish to write. Considering that, we’ll let you know whether to go ahead with your article or (if something of similar sort has recently been covered then) to hold back and, if likely, go for some other piece.
When submitting an outline of your article you will receive a reply acknowledging its receipt. However, after submitting an article, if you do not hear from us by the end of the fourth week, please assume that we have decided to not use your article. We do stock articles for use in later issues of our magazine depending on a particular theme the issue is covering, and will inform you within the four weeks time period if and when we choose to utilize them.
Article Writing
You should work towards giving your selected topic an Islamic perspective, which should be reinforced by Quranic Ayahs and/or authentic Ahadeeth.
The reference format for Quranic Ayahs and Ahadeeths is as follows:
The Holy Quran:
Example:
“O you who believe! Remember Allah abundantly. And glorify Him morning and evening.” (Al-Ahzaab 33: 41, 42)
In case the Ayah contains direct speech, then it can be separated by a single set of quotation marks.
Example:
“And the Unbelievers say: ‘Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?’ But thou art truly a warner, and to every people a guide.” (Al-Araaf 13:7)
The Ahadeeth:
Example:
Hazrat A’isha RTA reported Allah’s Messenger SAW as saying: “The most shameful amongst persons in the eye of Allah is one who tries to fall into dispute with others, for nothing but only to display his knowledge and power of argumentation.” (Muslim)
In case if the narrator is not mentioned, the source of the Hadeeth must be provided.
Example:
The Prophet SAW said: “Anger spoils faith (Iman) as (the bitterness of) aloe’s sap spoils honey.” (Tirmidhi)
The reference for both the Ayahs and Ahadeeth should be in curved brackets.
Write SWT after Allah, SAW after Prophet Muhammad’s name, AS after all prophets, and RTA as the title for all companions’ name.
Do not write the whole of sallallahu alaihi wassallam after Prophet’s name and likewise, as the above abbreviations will later be replaced by the magazine designer with especially designed Arabic icons. So writing abbreviations would save you time as well as would help in determining the exact number of words and space allocation of the article as writing the whole takes more space then having it in Arabic.
Quotations from works by other authors must always be accompanied by quotations marks. Place the name of the book or the author in brackets after the quotation, giving proper credit to the source. Quotations from non-Muslim writers should be avoided.
Any information involving statistics or research, and/or tables, diagrams, pictures used in the compilation of the article must always reveal its source and authenticity.
To maintain consistency, all non-English words should be spelled alike throughout the magazine. Some commonly used terms are as follows:
Quran – Ahadeeth – Ayah – Dua – Sunnah – Aameen – Rakat – Wudhu – Ghusl – Nafl – Farz – Ramadhan – Hazrat Jibraeel AS – Hazrat Aisha RA – Bukhari – Abu Dawood – Mishkaat – Masjid – Salah – Saum – Zakah – Hajj – Shariah – Makkah – Madina – Insha’Allah – Masha’Allah – Subhan’Allah – Alhamdulillah
Please note that the first letter of all such non- English terms is a capital letter.
All contributions should be emailed to: contact@intellectmagazine.net
Wishing you enjoyable writing experiences!
Any of the above stated points are subject to change whenever the Editorial Team deems necessary.
